About FAQ-LA

FAQ-LA gets it — Los Angeles is a big, exciting place. Tons of great food to eat and endless fun sights to see — and a million blogs and Tweets spewing what’s what. With so many choices, how do you figure out what to do? FAQ-LA wants to help.

FAQ-LA’s Lien Ta keeps up with all the aforementioned blogs and Tweets — and attempts to explore new restaurants, noteworthy chefs, best-deal Happy Hours, and most of all, the neighborhood spots that you can always count on. What Lien’s doing here is simple: She answers your FAQ — the one that usually begins with “Where should I … ?”

She curbs your indecisiveness and points you in the right direction of good food. Her taste is wide — there isn’t anything she won’t eat or at least try — and as long as you’re specific with what your interests and needs are, Lien will dole out her expert advice for you as thoughtfully as possible. Think of her as an online concierge. Or a food therapist.

Lien has lived all over Los Angeles since 2003 — from West Hollywood to Los Feliz to Venice — which means her suggestions won’t be skewed toward just one neighborhood (unless that’s what you want). Lien’s favorite food is always a great big, medium-rare cheeseburger. She, of course, revels in fine dining, but also taco truck grub, food court ramen, a fresh raw bar, the spiciest of Indian fare and even big bones of marrow. Not a day goes by that she’s not thinking about fried chicken.

(Self-admittedly, Lien isn’t hip to the Hollywood club stuff — and is OK with that. Many apologies.)

She’s eaten meals at these restaurants — and wouldn’t mind your insightful suggestions. (Please e-mail: lien@faq-la.com)

Lien will work tirelessly to provide the right answer for you. She’s not a reviewer, per se; in fact, she’d rather provide you with proper reviews of the places she’s suggesting. You make your final decision, always. FAQ-LA just wants to help you get there.

And most of all, Lien wants to get to know you. This will help FAQ-LA make better suggestions tailored to your interests. So, feel free to e-mail her as many or as little details as you want (if you become a regular, she’ll remember what your likes and dislikes are!). Oh, very important: If you have a deadline, please include it.

Use FAQ-LA — and enjoy it. Ask your question now.

Little Things to Include in Your E-mail to FAQ-LA:

1. Your first name and where you live
2. Your e-mail (I might need further details)
3. Your budget (if any)
4. If you’re a vegetarian and/or other dietary restrictions
5. Any other details about yourself that would help FAQ-LA

BONUS: FAQ-LA anticipates a lot of “Oh, I’ll go anywhere”/”I’ll eat anything” e-mails, so for these adventurous yet indecisive types, please say “Just Feeling Hungry.” Like Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” feature, Lien will spit out a tailored but somewhat random suggestion for you. This is fun — especially if you’re willing to travel for great food.
